i went to sch in home clothes and the guard stopped me. so i showed him the attendance card and he let me through. then we boarded the bus. nus charted a 18 seater bus specially for nj and hc! and its 2 way! and the bus is new! nj will only charter 1 side and the bus will be old old one with all the seats peeling. gross. so we, the nj students, waited for the stupid hc students who came strolling in late. then the bus driver asked where were we gg. we were like HUH? I TOT U KNEW?!? so it was panic. then calling of the teacher in charge. and finally found out it was changi beach carpark 1.
they said we will get wet so i remembered debra han said we would go out to see so i assumed we were gg out on a boat and prob water splash on my shirt? so i brought another shirt, a towel, extra socks and another sports bra. and in case it rained, i brought an umbrella. yinghan brought nothing and she was panicking.
we got there earlier than the nus students. we were still worrying that they would start prac without us which they always do. it was raining. and the shelters were all full. so we stood in the rain and waited for the nus ppl to come. then we got into our grps and put our bags in garbage bags. and then the prac started.
so we 1st went to the splash zone. i shall not say the scientific name coz im not gg to pull out the prac notes from my bag. and then we went to the zone between the highest tide and the lowest tide. we saw barnacles (hope i spelt that right) mosculla (snails) hermit crabs (so many of them the whole sand floor seem to be moving!), sea lettuce, brown algae, some floating germinating plants, ragworms (eew), sand crabs (was it called sand crabs or bubble crabs =X )
the rain stopped and the sun came out. from cold it turn to sorching hot. then i was worried i would get sunburnt coz i didnt apply sunblock since it was raining.
then we went out to sea to catch our samples. and out to sea means wadding in the water until waist deep. and i was wearing long pants. great. our prac grp split into 2 halves to catch. i was in the 2nd one. the 1st one caught a lot of stuff! scorpion fish(highly poisonous) starfish, crab, algae, white and blue jelly fish, tons of catfish, mantis shrimp! pipe fish, sea cucumber, this green fish....cant remember le. my grp caught more garbage than specimens. coz the teacher told us to go to some other areas. but we caught more baby shrimps and some more jellyfish and a baby crab and more catfish and of course algae.
transferred everything into the bucket then into a temp fish tank. nus very well prepared and organized! im highly impressed! then peter todd (the lecturer) came over to brief us on all the stuff we caught. then we went to look at other grps specimens. squids, butterfly fish and cuttlefish and more of wat we caught. i finally saw a live cuttlefish! and its so diff from the squid! my grp members were making the squid squirt out ink haha! then we also saw sea hair which was quite gross. and this sole (i dunno how its spelt) and some other stuff i cant remember le...oh yea puffer fish! but we couldnt make it puff. later on uh my friend (i cant remember his name =X ) from nj told us that coz the 1st few grps made it puff too much so when it came to our turn, the puffer fish was too tired. wat a waste.
and ppl from the public also came to look around coz we were all squealing and yea haha XD then we went back to the splash zone where we found this uh fruit. great i cant remember the name too. then the teacher was using the stone to crack it. its like almond nut inside. i brought one home. but i cant open it =(
then we washed up. soaked and sandy and the clothes that i brought were useless. yea brought socks and didnt think if my socks get wet then my shoes would get wet too -_-" so went onto the bus all wet and cold and waited for hc students for 15min! they very da pai la. we almost left without them. shld have. on the way back it was very quiet coz everyone was tired. and i was frozen and didnt feel like talking either.
traffic back to nj was bad. and on the highway i saw this accident. 4 cars crashed together. then we were discussing whether we shld stop the bus in front of the bus stop. but by the time we decided...we passed nj bus stop le -_-" finally reached nj and then when i walked into the canteen i saw the co exco packing up. i waved to chin ying but she dao me. grr. then i hurridly went to meet my parents who were waiting for me at hc bus stop. saw more co ppl at hc bus stop.
drove to meet my sis and had dinner at ntu. yea it was a very tiring day. and tats the end of my march hols. everyday go to sch. wat hol! i was barely at home!
